AB 22 (McCarty) Preschool data: data collection

Kidango is proud to co-sponsor and support Assembly Bill (AB) 22 (McCarty), which would require the California Department of Education (CDE) to collect critical child and staffing data in the California State Preschool Program (CSPP).

Specifically, AB 22 would require school-based CSPP providers to report preschool enrollment and staffing data to the CDE annually similar to data collected in TK-12 grade settings. Such data would allow the state to measure the short- and long-term impacts and benefits accrued by the state’s investment in preschool and TK settings, including postsecondary and economic outcomes for California students. This is achievable because of the state’s larger Cradle-to-Career data design.

Data are critical for ensuring that the state optimizes its limited resources in ways that best serve California residents and the economy, and AB 22 would improve the ability of the state to make resource allocation decisions.
