Behavioral health—often called mental health—is a vital part of Kidango’s mission to help every child reach their full potential. We take a whole child approach, understanding that emotional and mental well-being play a key role in early childhood development.
Research from Harvard’s National Scientific Council on the Developing Child highlights why early intervention is so important. During early childhood, rapid brain development makes children especially sensitive to trauma. Experiences of toxic stress can impact their emotions, behavior, cognitive abilities, and overall health. Trauma in these formative years has even been linked to changes in brain structure, such as a smaller cortex, which can affect IQ and emotional regulation.
That’s why we created Kidango Behavioral Health Intensive Services—a fast-acting, high-impact program designed to support children and families facing trauma or high-risk behaviors.
Our expert team of clinicians provide individual and family therapy in both English and Spanish to meet the needs of our diverse families. We also have Family Specialists who work closely with teachers to share strategies that support children in the classroom and share techniques with parents to strengthen the parent-child bond and reduce high-risk behaviors.
Beyond therapy, our team is well-connected with community resources, ensuring families can access the support they need. Using comprehensive assessments and intensive treatment plans, we set goals to help children and families address challenges, process trauma, and build a brighter future both at home and in the classroom.
At Kidango, our ultimate goal is to promote socio-emotional wellness and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Our behavioral health intensive services are currently available through a pilot program for enrolled families at our Alameda and Santa Clara County centers through referrals by their teachers.
