Full Day Preschool (Sample Daily Routine)
[En Español]Kidango’s full day preschool programs typically operate from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m Monday through Friday. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are provided and daily activities include small group activities focusing on literacy, writing, pre-math, pre-science, art and dramatic play, large group activities to develop social-emotional development, outdoor play and rest-time.
Center Opening: Children and families are welcomed; parents sign their child in and are informed of any special events for the day. Parents help children to settle in (i.e. put belongings away in child’s cubby, communicate any special needs to the teachers).
Throughout the day teachers prepare children for transitions between activities and routines. Children are encouraged to help care for their classroom environment by returning toys to their places and assisting the teachers with clean up between activities.
Morning/Free Choice Activities: Children have free choice of learning centers such as the dramatic play area, block area, writing center, reading area, art area and table toys (games, manipulatives, play dough, etc.).
Breakfast: Between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. a nutritious breakfast is served. Children and teachers eat family style and children learn about food and mealtime.
Indoor/Outdoor Learning Opportunities: After breakfast, children participate in small group activities or projects (based on knowledge of children’s interests and developmental needs).
Outdoor Activities: Children participate in outdoor activities throughout the day. These activities help promote fine and gross motor skills as well as friendship, fun and adventure.
Large Group Time: Before lunch, as age appropriate, children and teachers/adults gather for a social group experience. Songs, story time, group games and/or group discussions promote a sense of community while building language and literacy skills.
Lunch: Between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. lunch is served. Children brush their teeth after mealtime.
Nap/Rest time: (12:30 to 1:30 pm) All children are encouraged to rest and relax for a period of time (alternative quiet activities are provided for children who are not ready to nap).
Afternoon Activity: During the afternoon, children engage in more indoor/outdoor learning opportunities. These activities vary depending on the classroom curriculum.
End of the Day: Teachers prepare children for going home. Parents arrive, are informed of their child’s day and sign out their child before leaving.
